McCoy Creek
Class V (P), 200fpm, ~75cfs (1000cfs Cispus at Randle)
February 23, 2003
Ben, Jason, John, Leo
The flow was painfully low, especially for John who took a beating midway down the 28-foot waterfall. The left wall was very difficult to avoid and we all deflected off it (3 boats, 1 body). Unfortunately, the camera was dropped at the base of Chinook Falls so I have no carnage to share. Besides making for a long, cold day, it was a good way to get a feel for this spectacular creek.
Leo running the long slide below the pothole rapid.
Myself running the long slide.
Jason testing his luck in an undercut slot. The sunny center is the preferred line but make sure you have safety because there is a sticky hole just below here. Others may prefer the steep portage through the woods on river right.
John running the middle drop of Chinook Falls. The entire rapid can be scouted with difficulty on river left.
